Amazon.ca Discosis, the follow-up to Bran Van's 1998 debut (which featured the slow-burning summer hit "Drinking in LA"), is another ambitious mix of beats and space-age pop. The stand-out track is the opener, "Astounded", which came about when main Bran-man James Di Salvio approached Curtis Mayfield, shortly before his death. Too ill to perform, Mayfield offered Di Salvio use of his archive, and the latter sampled an unused vocal to create this large, luscious and deeply moving tribute to a soul hero. For the rest, Di Salvio has recorded satirical tales of urban loving and living with some classy collaborations--Momus, for instance, doing an admirable Jacques Brel impression on "More Shopping"; Big Daddy Kane playing blaxploitation king on "Loaded"; and Youssou N'Dour singing with his customary soaring lilt on "Senegal". --Lucy O'Brien Product Description The Second Album from the Canadian Amalgamation of Artists that Fuse Rap, Reggae, Trip Hop, Folk Indie Rock and More Genres Together is a Stylistic Marvel Indeed, Spearheaded by Former Aspiring Filmaker Jamie "Bran Man" Disalvio. Other Guests Here Include Big Daddy Kane, Momus and Senegalese Superstar Youssou N'dour, who Appropriately Does the Vocals on "Senegal".
