Prisoners of War is not merely a gripping tension-filled, award-winning drama series from Israel – it is a must-see DVD for Canadian fans of Super Channel’s similarly gripping Homeland because it is the source from which the massive US hit is derived. Homeland’s Nicholas Brody is really a composite of Prisoners of War’s two IDF soldiers – Nimrod and Uri – returning home from 17 years of brutal captivity at the hands of the Palestine Liberation Organization. Season One tracks their difficult re-introduction into family life in Israel. As one would suspect, there are signs that while they have returned physically to their homeland, the same can’t be said for their intellectual and spiritual selves. The second season starts where the first ended – Nimrod and Uri continue to pick up the pieces of their lives, but are now shocked to discover that Amiel Ben Horin is alive and living as a Muslim in Syria. The two contact Haim and implore him to investigate. Has Amiel been turned? Has he joined the terrorist organization that kidnapped and held them for 17 years?
