Son précédent album éponyme, ancré dans la tradition des chanteurs français, étonnait par son univers étrangement décalé. On croisait les doigts pour qu’il ne se répète pas. Il a fait plus que tenir ses promesses. La forêt des mal-aimés est un grand album où toutes les influences ont été non seulement digérées, mais réinterprétées en un style unique. Comme s’il réinventait littéralement la chanson française, un peu comme Thomas Fersen ou Vincent Delerm il y a quelques années. Mélodies superbes, harmonies solides, textes poétiques et personnels à souhait, voici une forêt des mal-aimés où on passerait sa vie entière. Lapointe (qui se passe désormais de prénom) chante comme nul autre les souvenirs d’enfance, l’amour malheureux ou la beauté d’un visage aimé dans des mots choisis, enveloppés d’arrangements sonores où les violons se noient dans des vagues d’électro.
