Jack (Nestor Carbonell) is a reformed womanizer, recently divorced and living alone with his son Sam. The simplicity of Jack’s new lifestyle shifts when he receives a surprise visit from his crippled sister Jill (Janeane Garofalo), who asks him to look after her delinquent son Charlie, while she sorts out a divorce from her unstable husband Eli (John Ritter). La générosité de Jack est exploitée lorsque sans prévenir, Eli se pointe chez lui, sans le sous et nulle part où aller.Il n’en faut pas plus pour déclencher une série de situations tragicomiques mettant en scène les membres d’une famille en crise et troublée par les événements. Le tout mène à une conclusion des plus touchante démontrant la force des liens familiaux et de la compassion.
