The two are detained by police for days and eventually forced to confess to the bombing of a soldiers' hangout. Then, to Gerry's horror, his father and aunt are also arrested. Together they become the scapegoats for this IRA terrorist act. After 15 years of struggle, the accused finally win their freedom when an attorney uncovers the truth: that the English Crown withheld key information that would have exonerated Conlon and the other defendants.
