Connu aujourd'hui comme un compositeur à l'imagination fertile, Luigi Boccherini est surtout l'un des plus grands violoncellistes que la musique ait connus. Parmi ses quelque cinq cents compositions instrumentales, on retiendra donc en priorité les oeuvres avec violoncelle. Outre les concertos, on retrouve l'éclat qui caractérise Boccherini dans ses oeuvres de chambre. La virtuosité presque théâtrale du Quatuor Mosaïque (formidable ensemble européen formé autour du Français Christophe Coin) donne toute la mesure de cette musique tant admirée par Haydn. Une complicité de tous les instants et une sonorité étincelante. Si vous aimez le Quatuor Mosaïque, n'hésitez pas. D'ailleurs, allez voir du côté de Haydn : sur instruments d'époque, vous ne trouverez pas meilleure interprétation.--Pierre Massé
