Amazon.ca Excellent performances and flashes of visual flair turn what could have been a run-of-the-mill sex thriller into taut and unpredictable neonoir. Burt Reynolds is genuinely scary as Charles LeBlanc, a wealthy man so consumed with jealous suspicion that he offers Jimmy (Peter Facinelli), a good-looking carpenter, $50,000 to try to seduce his wife, Lily (Saffron Burrows). When Jimmy comes over to do repairs on the LeBlanc's house, he and Lily experience some sparks, but she spurns him--until she learns from another source about the financial deal, and decides to teach Charles a lesson. Of course, things quickly get out of hand... but between Tempted's steamy New Orleans atmosphere, a host of well-written and -acted supporting characters, and a carefully orchestrated plot, it's never obvious who's going to end up cold on the ground or hot between the sheets. --Bret Fetzer
