Good - DELETE

Beneath Augusta guitarists Matthew Cromarty and Michael Brennan had toured extensively throughout North America with their space rock quartet, Mellonova, releasing two EPs and one full-length record on indie label Aporia Records. They charted on college radio, received some mainstream airplay, and licensed songs to independent films and television, most infamously to Fox for an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. When Mellonova disbanded in June of 2003, Cromarty and Brennan no longer felt bound by expectations held over from their previous work. Instead, they found themselves free to explore aspects of songwriting that hadn't fit into their old aesthetic and seized the opportunity to move forward and start something completely new. Joined by bassist Clay Jones, drummer Todd Knapp and Searaig Hopgood on organ, the new group set off to the UK in 2004 for a two-week tour, road testing the new material to an appreciative crowd and securing a distribution deal with Shellshock in the UK. Upon returning the band woodsheded for two months, writing and polishing what would become their debut album You Gotta Come Down Sometime (Aporia/Universal) recorded with Rudy Rempel at Toronto's Chemical Sound. The result is a collection of ten songs that incorporate many aspects of the band's evolving sound. The music, though somewhat melancholic at times, still retains a glimmer of optimism. The sound is textural and melodic with a driving sense of urgency, mitigating its more obvious pop roots with unconventional chord voicings and rhythms, creating a new sound that is continually evolving as the band progresses.
